The Grand Port Maritime du Havre has selected PortAll !

The GPMH (Grand Port Maritime du Havre) has selected PortAll, our web mapping application and its module ULHYSSES for the production and automatic update of the most accurate bathymetric charts (bENC). PortAll is operated on touch-screen tables by the Hydrographic Service and as well by the Port Authority for the management of ships. In 2018, the GPMH had already selected our software PortSide to produce its port charts (ENC) in S57 standard.

AnkomAkustik: New distributor for MithraSIG

Distributeur MithraSIGGeomod is proud to announce a new partner: AnkomAkustik, who will distribute our environmental acoustic software MithraSIG in Poland.

AnkomAkustik was founded in 2010 in Poznań. AnkomAkustik covers a wide range of acoustic challenges. Marcin Przybył , President of the Management Board :

MithraSIG: How to simplify the creation of terrain from grids


The French Geographic Institute (IGN) and more and more data providers are delivering the ground in the form of ASC grids with small pixel size (1 m or even 10 cm).

MithraSIG creates a ground as points and contour lines. The integration function converts grids (“ASC” format for example) into points. The major problem lies in the fact that the number of points produced is huge (several millions) and not very relevant in the zones of almost flat landscape where the ground has no effect on the acoustic propagation (outside the ground effect).


Example: we have four ASC grids of 1000 x 1000 pixels with a pixel size of 1 m, that corresponds to four million points on 4 km².

Operating principle

The new MithraSIG function reduces the number of points from these grids by considering a maximum tolerated difference chosen by the user between the initial and produced data.

An altitude comparison is done for each point between a complete data triangulation and an approximate triangulation while remaining within the tolerance. The result thus obtained represents the feature points of the ground: ridges, peaks, valleys, slope breaks, and mounds. These are the points that we seek to identify and to model in acoustics.

A tolerance of 20 cm divide the number of points by 250. The average deviation (with the original data) is 10 cm.

With a tolerance of 1 m, there is an average loss of precision of 50 cm and a theoretical maximum loss of 1 m. We reduce the number of points by more than 2600.

Comparisons are made with all the same calculation parameters. The average difference is made in absolute value in order to avoid that errors compensate each other.

The differences of calculation with and without simplification of the ground are weak. However, locally, one can find important differences: some rays appear as diffracted in one case and not on the other. This is especially true in the NMPB08 method where the height of the source is low (5 cm).




Simplification of the terrain depends on the wanted precision of the simulations: this precision varies between a city cartography and an environmental impact study.

We calculate from ray tracing: details below the wavelength (less than 10 cm) do not improve the precision of the simulations. We advise to always simplify the data (with a tolerance of 10 or 20 cm) which significantly reduces the number of points and computation time without altering the results.

  • SWMM Simulation Engine Built-In

XPDrainage 2019.1 includes a full hydraulic SWMM5 simulation engine that can handle sustainable drainage structures. This means you can do both design and analysis, and therefore scenarios and iterations, all within XPDrainage.

Adopting the SWMM5 engine brings you reliable and widely accepted hydraulic analysis of pipes, manholes and – unique to XPDrainage – hydraulic LID structures (also known as SuDS and WSUD). The analysis is significantly faster than the previous XPDrainage engine, saving you time and giving you more confidence in your designs. It also offers more commonality with other Innovyze modeling products that include SWMM5.

  • Improved Comparison Reporting

You can now build multiple reports to plot and tabulate results, from different phases, by total or individual objects. This means you can interpret results and make decisions faster when you’re considering different stormwater control options.

The Professional Union of Drivers of the Ports of Marseille and the Gulf of Fos and AUTO ULHYSSES


The Professional Union of Drivers of the Ports of Marseille and the Gulf of Fos acquires our AUTO ULHYSSES software to produce and updating automatically their own bathymetric charts.

Few words about AUTO ULHYSSES?

  • AUTO ULHYSSES updates automatically ENC bathymetric coverage as new surveys are sent.

  • AUTO ULHYSSES archives the survey history, allowing it to regenerate all the bathymetric coverage by respecting the survey timeline, which is particularly interesting if you want to modify parameters or benefit from the changes made by a new version of the software.

  • AUTO ULHYSSES generates an ENC containing the polygons created by trimming the probes used for each survey. Displayed with the date of the survey, it allows to know the date of the most recent bathymetry in all points of the domain.

  • The bENC made by AUTO ULHYSSES are directly usable by the PPU, allowing pilots to have the most up-to-date bathymetry.

  • AUTO ULHYSSES works as a server client and is piloted through a PortAll web page. PortAll is Geomod’s web solution responding to the needs of the Hydro services, the harbor master’s office, and also to the professional unions of port pilots or mooring services.

MithraSIG: New version!

The new MithraSIG version in 5 points :

Simplification of the Ground creation by grids

More and more ground are grids (ASC Format) with millions of points. A new parameter was added to optimize MithraSIG ground creation. This new Z accuracy parameter reduces the number of ground points with a very limited lack of precision.

It reduces points considering a maximum tolerated gap between the initial data and MithraSIG ground. An altitude comparison is done for each point between a complete data triangulation and an approximate triangulation while remaining inside the tolerance.

The result thus obtained represents the ground feature points: thalwegs, crests (mounds), summits, hollows, break points (banks).


Update maps

In this version, created maps appear in color (green or purple) in the project window.

  • Green color means that the map is synchronous with the simulation and can not be updated. The simulation has not rerun since the creation of the map.

  • Purple color means that the map can be updated, the simulation has rerun after the map has been created.


Simulation Triangulation

This version enables to visualize the triangulation associated with any completed simulation in the form of polygons from a specific overlay. This triangulation is the internal model used to calculate the 3D sections of the calculation paths. Each triangle edge intersected by a calculation path adds a point representing the terrain to that section.

A gradient of color is displayed according to the slope of the triangles ; flat triangles appear in white and triangles with a slope greater than 10% appear in dark brown. This allows a better analysis of the calculation ground effects.


Tabs per frequency

Addition of the option Details to the renderings of simulations whose sources storage is by frequency. It allows to show all frequency in a table label. Each frequency is on a single row.


Open Street Map Tiles specific overlay

The overlay displaying the Open Street Map background map is now located in a specific MithraSIG overlay in the Model data list to make it more accessible.
