PortSide allows to create and edit datasets in S57 format: Electronic Navigational Charts for marine, harbour or river (ENC, IENC), as well as AML vector layers. For example, PortSide is the perfect tool for the harbour hydrographic service wishing to create its own harbour charts, more accurate than the official charts and containing the objects of interest to the harbour pilots.
Developed in java, it results from Geomod’s strong expertise in hydrographic data exploitation and in IHO/IMO standards: S57, S52, S63, S68, etc.
Being specifically designed for S57 format, its internal structure is based on the S57 «Chain-Node» model. Then, handling the software becomes optimal.
PortSide: a production software making S57 understandable
How PortSide works
PortSide is a software that creates and edits data in S57 format. Developed in java, PortSide implements the « Chain-Node » topological model as operated in S57.
PortSide also exports data in XML in order to produce an ASCII file equivalent of the S57 file. This XML model has an obvious teaching interest to better understand the S57. That XML file can even be read by PortSide to reload the data.
PortSide allows to choose its product’s specification: ENC, IENC, AML.
PortSide reads point, line and polygon files in shape format in order to integrate existing topographic data.
PortSide allows to overlay web coverages of satellite images, as well as the most accurate IGN orthophoto coverage (requires a subscription to the IGN WMS).
Functionalities
PortSide allows to:
-
Initialize a new chart and edit the associated metadata
-
Integrate existing data in SHP format
-
Edit and clean the « Chain-Node » topology (manual or automatic edition applied to a selection of links or nodes)
-
Create real world objects, either based on the existing topology , either by creating it simultaneously
-
Enquire the semantics of real world objects according to the product specification
-
Visualize data at any time according to the S52 standard
-
Export in S57 or XML format
Benefits
-
PortSide is a software developed in Java, especially for the edition of datasets in the S57 format
-
Geomod provides French training and technical support.
-
Geomod also offers a support to produce the first charts
