WMS Marine is a Web server offering Web Map Services (WMS) query capabilities for displaying ENC data.
This server allows to display, in your web browser, Cartographic information from Electronic Navigational Charts (ENC) in the form of S52 standardized geo-referenced images (GETMAP) and image requests (GetFeatureInfo).
Because of its flexibility, WMS Marine brings a real innovation to the world market. Exploiting the ENC vector data, it produces a high quality image. Querying objects completely exploit the capabilities of the WMS protocol. This product is not allowed for navigational purpose but it perfectly meets the needs for port monitoring or coastal management around a flexible architecture with data shared by users.
The advantages of the WMS Marine
WMS Marine’s architecture
WMS Marine is based on a Tomcat web server, the GeoWebCache Image Cache Manager, and relies on our KarMor SDK for building images. It can be used under Windows (through IIS included ) as well as under Linux. Any WMS compliant client can exploit the server.
Building and updating the chart database
The server’s cartographic database can be fed with unencrypted (S57) or encrypted (S63) charts: ENC, IENC, BENC, or AML.
Official chart updates are automatically processed.
Layers setup
The information contained in the ENC is returned to the client in the form of themed layers. These layers are configurable. It is, for example, possible to create a layer “regulations” containing all the objects of the ENC concerned by this theme. The selection of objects to a layer can be done in a fine way. It is therefore possible to distribute instances of objects of the same type in different layers using filters based not only on the object type but also on the characteristics (attributes) of the object, for example:
- Distinguish restricted areas associated with navigation from restricted areas associated with the administration.
- Distinguish historic wrecks from wrecks in general.
Portrayal setup
By default, the chart protrayal is fully compliant with is the official IHO symbolization (S52). But the system remains configurable by offering the ability to define your own portrayal to fit your requirements.
Performance
WMS Marine achieves particularly remarkable display performance in view of what is usually found, Geomod having also treated this aspect with extreme rigor.
Intergration
Handling specific developments on demand, Geomod can integrate your own data layers into the WMS server. On the other hand, the technologies used make it possible to integrate the WMS server into your existing Web services.
WMS Marine is a turnkey solution: Geomod will support you during the delivery, installation, integration and mapping configuration of this server.
As a software solutions developer, Geomod is also able to respond to all your requests about functionalities that exploit the ENC (filtering, querying, etc.).
